Getting Started
What is Poll Everywhere?
Poll Everywhere is a live audience engagement platform that lets presenters collect real-time responses from any audience — students, employees, or event attendees — using the devices they already have. Presenters create interactive polls, word clouds, Q&A sessions, surveys, and quizzes, then display live results directly in PowerPoint, Google Slides, or a standalone browser window. No special hardware, no app download, and no audience account is required. Poll Everywhere is used at 78% of U.S. R1 research universities and by tens of thousands of businesses worldwide.
→ Learn more: [How Poll Everywhere works](#)
How does live polling work — what does the presenter do, and what does the audience do?
The presenter creates one or more activities in Poll Everywhere (in advance or on the fly), then shares a unique join link or code with the audience. Participants visit the link or go to pollev.com on any device, enter the presenter's join code, and respond to the prompt — no account needed. Results appear on the presenter's screen the moment responses come in: multiple choice questions display as live bar charts, word clouds grow in real time, and Q&A threads update with new submissions. The presenter controls when polling opens and closes, and can choose to display results live or hold them until voting ends.
Do participants need to download an app or create an account?
No — neither is required. Participants join directly from any web browser on their phone, tablet, or computer. There is nothing to install and no account to create. Poll Everywhere does offer optional iOS and Android apps, but they are never required to participate. This is intentional: the lower the friction for your audience, the higher your response rate.
→ See: [What devices and browsers do participants need?](#) (Section 3)
How do participants join a poll?
Every presenter has a permanent join code — a human-readable username like `uw-physics-234` — not a rotating number. Participants can join in two ways:
- Join code: Go to pe.app, enter the presenter's join code, and hit Join. The active poll loads immediately.
- QR code: Scan the QR code displayed in the corner of the presenter's live view using any device with a camera. It opens the same link instantly, no typing required.
Both methods work on any browser, on any device, with no account or app needed.
Can I create and run a poll in the same session, or do I need to set up in advance?
Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet
Both are supported. You can build an activity in seconds and open it to your audience mid-presentation — useful for impromptu questions or responding to audience discussion. The Q&A activity type is especially well-suited for this: it surfaces a live prompt where audience members submit questions and upvote the ones they most want answered, making it a natural fit for town halls, office hours, and live classroom sessions. That said, setting up activities in advance is recommended for larger or more structured sessions, especially if you're using PowerPoint or Google Slides integration, grading, or LMS sync. There is no hard limit on the number of activities in a single presentation; response limits depend on your plan.
→ See: [What are the limits of the free plan?](#) (Section 2)
What types of questions and activities can I create?
Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet
Poll Everywhere 2.0 includes the following question types:
- Bar — classic multiple choice with a live bar chart
- Donut — multiple choice displayed as a donut chart
- Likert — rating scale for measuring sentiment or agreement
- Radar — multi-axis spider chart for comparing across dimensions
- Word Cloud — open-ended responses visualized as a growing word cloud
- Q&A — audience submits questions and upvotes the ones they most want answered
- Clickable Image — participants tap a region of an image to respond
- Attendance — tracks who is present in a session
- Leaderboard — displays a running score across questions with correct answers set
Competitive quiz-style sessions are created by setting correct answers on any poll and adding a Leaderboard to display scores.
→ See all activity types: [Activity type overview](#)
Can I run polls asynchronously, or only during a live session?
Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet
Both. Poll Everywhere polls and surveys can be shared as a link and completed by participants on their own time — no live session required. This is useful for pre-class surveys, homework, post-event feedback, or async team check-ins. Share the link via email, your LMS, Slack, or any other channel. Results accumulate as responses come in and are available for review at any time in your Poll Everywhere dashboard.
What is the difference between a "poll," an "activity," and a "presentation" in Poll Everywhere?
Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet
In Poll Everywhere 2.0, poll and activity are effectively interchangeable — both refer to the main organizational unit, which can contain one or more questions. Grouping questions inside a single poll makes it easier to organize your content into folders, share a set of questions at once, and add an entire sequence to PowerPoint or Google Slides in one step.
The individual items within a poll — a multiple choice question, a word cloud, a Q&A — are simply referred to as questions. You'll see this reflected in the creation interface, where each poll holds one or more questions of different types.
If you're coming from Poll Everywhere 1.0, the main change is that what was previously called an "activity" maps closely to what is now called a "poll" in 2.0.
What is Poll Everywhere 2.0, and how is it different from the original?
Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet
Poll Everywhere 2.0 is the current generation of the platform, launched with a fully redesigned interface and new capabilities including AI-powered activity creation using Google Gemini, improved performance, new activity types, and an updated presenter experience. The original Poll Everywhere (1.0) remains accessible during the transition, and existing accounts can migrate at any time. If you're a current user deciding whether to switch, 2.0 is the recommended path forward — all new features are built there first.

Pricing, Plans & Billing
Is Poll Everywhere free?
Yes. Poll Everywhere has a permanent free plan with no expiration date. Every new account also starts with a 30-day trial of the Teams plan (business) or Educator+ plan (education) — the highest retail tier — so you can explore the full feature set before your account settles into the free tier. No credit card is required to sign up.
What does the free plan include, and what are its limits?
The free plan includes unlimited polls and questions, 10 AI prompts per month, and access to the support center and FAQ. The key limit is audience size: up to 40 responses per poll. Features not available on the free plan include reporting, attendance management, archived results, custom branding, and email support. The free plan works well for small groups and individual exploration — for larger audiences or professional features, a paid plan is required.
→ See: [What paid plans does Poll Everywhere offer?](#)
Does the free plan expire, and can I use it long-term?
The free plan does not expire. It is a permanent tier, not a trial. Every new account starts with a 30-day trial of Teams or Educator+ — after that trial ends, the account moves to the free plan, not to zero. Your polls and data are preserved. You can run polls on the free plan indefinitely.
How does the free trial work, and what happens when it ends?
Every new Poll Everywhere account includes a 30-day trial of the Teams plan (business) or Educator+ plan (education) — no credit card required. During the trial you have access to the full retail feature set: 700-participant polls, reporting, attendance management, custom branding, and phone/email support. When the trial ends, your account automatically moves to the free plan. Your polls and data are retained; features that require a paid plan are locked until you upgrade.
What paid plans does Poll Everywhere offer?
Poll Everywhere offers separate plan tracks for business and education users.
Business: Intro (free), Present ($10/mo billed annually), Engage ($49/mo billed annually), Teams ($84/mo billed annually), Enterprise (custom).
Education: Free, Lecture ($9/mo billed annually), Educator ($16/mo billed annually), Educator+ ($27/mo billed annually), Campus-wide (custom).
All prices are in USD. Monthly billing is available on the Engage and Teams business plans only — all other plans are annual only. Annual plans save up to 50% compared to monthly pricing.

Is there a plan for one-time events?
Most one-time events don't require a paid plan at all. Every new Poll Everywhere account includes a 30-day trial of the Teams plan, which supports up to 700 participants — covering the vast majority of single-room events at no cost. For larger or more complex productions that require a bigger audience, custom branding, or dedicated support, contact our team and we'll find the right fit.
Can I pay month-to-month instead of annually?
Monthly billing is available on the Engage and Teams business plans. It is not available on the Present plan or on any education plan. Annual plans are billed at up to 50% less than the monthly equivalent — monthly billing is the right option if you need paid features for a defined period without committing to a full year.
Do you offer education pricing?
Yes. Poll Everywhere has a dedicated education plan track with pricing well below the business plans — starting at $9/month for the Lecture plan (billed annually). Over 1 million educators use Poll Everywhere in classrooms and lecture halls. For institutions or departments looking to license Poll Everywhere campus-wide, the Campus-wide plan offers custom pricing with LMS integration, SAML SSO, shared polls, and a dedicated success manager.
→ [See education plans](#)
Do you offer discounts for non-profits?
We don't have a dedicated non-profit pricing program, but non-profit organizations are welcome to use the permanent free plan or any of our paid plans. Organizations with tax-exempt status can have sales tax waived with written documentation — contact Support for details.
What is your refund policy?
Poll Everywhere offers several ways to use the product before committing financially: a permanent free plan, a 30-day full-featured trial with every new account, and monthly billing on select business plans. Annual plans are priced at a substantial discount relative to monthly pricing; because of this, we're not able to offer refunds on annual plans that have been put to use. If you purchased a plan by mistake, contact Support and we'll review your situation.
Can I get a purchase order or invoice for my institution's procurement team?
Do you charge sales tax?
Yes, where required by applicable tax authorities. Organizations with tax-exempt status can have sales tax waived with written documentation — contact Support to arrange.
What does "audience size" or "responses per poll" mean?
Audience size — also called responses per poll — is the number of responses a single poll can receive at one time. The limit applies per poll, not per session or per account. A presenter with a 700-person limit can run back-to-back polls throughout a session without restriction. It also means a smaller group can each respond multiple times to a single poll, which produces richer word clouds and more active Q&A sessions.
What happens if more participants try to respond than my plan allows?
Once a poll reaches its response limit, additional responses are silently not accepted. Participants who respond after the cap is hit won't see an error message, but may notice that the live results don't reflect their input. If you regularly hit your audience size limit, upgrading your plan is the right solution.
Do participants have to pay anything to join?
No. Participation is always free for your audience. There are no fees, no account creation, and no app download required to respond to a poll.
How do I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Click your name in the lower-left corner of Poll Everywhere, go to Organization Settings, and select the Plan & Billing tab.
Participant Experience
What devices and browsers do participants need?
Participants can join from virtually any modern device — phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. Poll Everywhere works across Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, and Linux. Supported browsers include Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Samsung Internet. Most browsers and devices from the past ten years will work without issue. More recent software tends to offer more consistent and secure experiences, but there are no restrictive minimum requirements for the vast majority of users.
Can participants respond via SMS text message?
SMS response is not supported in Poll Everywhere 2.0. For most users this isn't a limitation — wifi and cellular data are reliable enough that browser-based response is seamless on any device. If SMS is a hard requirement for your use case, contact Sales to discuss options.
Does Poll Everywhere work outside the United States, and can participants respond in other languages?
Yes. Poll Everywhere works internationally — participants anywhere with internet access can join a session. Poll content (questions, choices, prompts) can be written in any language, and participants can respond in any language in open-ended and word cloud questions, which support full unicode input. The Poll Everywhere interface itself is currently available in English only, but most modern browsers offer built-in translation that can render the UI in your preferred language. Poll content — questions, choices, and prompts — is fully customizable in any language, and the AI creation tools can assist with writing questions in other languages.
Are participant responses anonymous — and what can the presenter or other participants see?
Anonymity is off by default and is configured per question. When anonymity is enabled, responses are fully decoupled from any identity. When it's off, the practical reality depends on whether participants have registered:
- Unregistered participants (the default) are assigned randomly generated screen names, making individual identification practically impossible for the presenter. This covers the vast majority of use cases.
- Registered participants can have their responses linked to their identity, which is useful for grading and attendance. Presenters can require registration, and enterprise accounts can use SSO and LMS integration to make this seamless.
Can participants change their answer after submitting?
Yes. Participants can update their response after submitting. Some question types include a timing element — such as timed competition questions — that may limit this once the timer expires.
What happens if a participant loses internet during a session?
The participant-facing interface detects the lost connection and displays a notification in the UI. It reconnects automatically as soon as a connection is restored — no need to manually rejoin or re-enter a join code. If the automatic reconnect doesn't trigger on a mobile browser, a manual page refresh will do the trick.
Can participants with accessibility needs use Poll Everywhere?
Yes. Poll Everywhere 2.0 is WCAG 2.2 AA compliant (VPAT® Version 2.5). Accessibility features are enabled by default — no configuration required. The platform supports screen readers, keyboard navigation, and other assistive technologies, with specific 2.0 improvements including ARIA live regions for dynamic content, accurate ARIA states on interactive elements, improved color contrast, enhanced focus indicators, and semantic HTML grouping for question sets. HECVAT, VPAT, and security certificates are available on request through Sales. Full accessibility statement and VPAT at polleverywhere.com/security, or email accessibility@polleverywhere.com.
PowerPoint & Presentation Integrations
Does Poll Everywhere work with Google Slides, Keynote, Canva, and other presentation tools?
Yes — and this is where the Poll Everywhere Live App comes in. The Live App lets you present polls from any presentation software: Google Slides, Keynote, Canva, Prezi, PowerPoint, or anything else. It works by running alongside your presentation and detecting Poll Everywhere QR codes on screen, then replacing that view with the live activated poll — no browser extension, no add-on, no integration to maintain per tool.
The Live App also works with both Poll Everywhere 1.0 and 2.0 slides, even mixed in the same presentation. This is a significantly better experience than tool-specific integrations, which have become increasingly difficult to maintain reliably as browser security and platform policies have tightened across both Microsoft and Google's ecosystems. The Live App solves that problem once, for every presentation tool.
Download the Poll Everywhere Live App
How do I add polls to my PowerPoint presentation?
For desktop PowerPoint users, Poll Everywhere offers a native PowerPoint add-in that embeds polls directly into your slide deck. Once installed, you can insert polls into any existing presentation — no rebuilding from scratch. When you present, polls run live as native slides and results update in real time without leaving PowerPoint.
Download the PowerPoint add-in
If you use PowerPoint on the web, SharePoint, or PowerPoint Live, use the Poll Everywhere Live App instead — it provides a better experience for those environments.
→ See: [Does Poll Everywhere work with Google Slides, Keynote, and other tools?](#)
What are the system requirements for the PowerPoint add-in?
The Poll Everywhere add-in (v1.0.2.0) is compatible with:
- PowerPoint 2013 SP1 or later on Windows
- PowerPoint 2016 or later on Windows and Mac
- PowerPoint 2019 or later on Windows and Mac
- PowerPoint on the web
- PowerPoint on Mac and Windows (Microsoft 365)
The add-in can be acquired using a Work or school account or a personal Microsoft account.
Can I present polls without leaving PowerPoint?
Yes. With the PowerPoint add-in, polls are embedded as slides in your deck and run live without switching windows or applications. Participant responses appear in real time directly on the slide as your audience responds — no alt-tab required.
Do I need to install software, and what if I'm on a computer without it?
Yes, depending on how you present:
- Desktop PowerPoint users → install the PowerPoint add-in
- Everyone else (Google Slides, Keynote, Canva, web-based PowerPoint, etc.) → install the Poll Everywhere Live App
If you're presenting from a computer that has neither installed, you can present directly from the Poll Everywhere web interface at app.polleverywhere.com in a browser window alongside your slides.
Why isn't my PowerPoint add-in working?
See our PowerPoint add-in troubleshooting guide in the support center for common issues and fixes. If you're running into persistent problems, the Poll Everywhere Live App is a reliable alternative that works across all presentation environments.
Education & Classroom Use
Enterprise & Corporate Use
How does enterprise licensing work, and can I get a custom contract?
Enterprise is priced and scoped per organization — there are no published rates. For corporate customers, licensing is per presenter: each person who runs polls needs their own account, and license count is determined by how many presenters your organization needs. For higher education institutions, pricing is typically structured around Full Time Enrollment (FTE) — the number of enrolled students — rather than presenter count, reflecting how campuses deploy Poll Everywhere at scale.
Custom contracts and SLAs are available at the Enterprise tier. Enterprise agreements include dedicated support, custom audience sizes, and optional procurement accommodations. Contact Sales to scope your organization's plan.
Can multiple presenters share a single Poll Everywhere account?
No. Each presenter needs their own account. This is a common assumption worth correcting: shared account credentials aren't supported, and every active presenter requires their own license.
That said, the Teams and Enterprise plans are designed for multi-presenter organizations. Shared polls and shared folders let teams collaborate on content — building, reusing, and organizing activities together — while each presenter maintains their own login and independently controls their live sessions.
Does Poll Everywhere support Single Sign-On (SSO)?
Yes. SAML SSO is supported at the Enterprise (business) and Campus-wide (education) tiers. Poll Everywhere 2.0 uses WorkOS for identity management, which means all WorkOS-supported identity providers are available — including Okta, Azure AD, Google Workspace, and many others. If your organization uses a SAML 2.0-compatible IdP, it's supported.
SSO is configured in Organization Settings → Authentication tab. Setup assistance is available through your dedicated success manager or Sales.
Does Poll Everywhere support SCIM provisioning for user management?
Yes. SCIM is supported in both Poll Everywhere 1.0 and 2.0. In 2.0, SCIM provisioning is handled via WorkOS, which supports the most common SCIM-compatible directory providers — including Okta, Azure AD, and others. See the full list of supported providers at workos.com.
SCIM enables automated user provisioning and deprovisioning directly from your identity provider, so you can manage Poll Everywhere access centrally alongside the rest of your organization's software. Available at the Enterprise and Campus-wide tiers.
Can I customize or remove Poll Everywhere branding?
Yes — custom branding is available starting at the Teams plan ($84/month). Teams plan branding options include your organization's logo, custom colors, and a custom username and URL (your `pe.app/yourname` link). Poll Everywhere's own logo can also be removed at this tier.
Custom domain names (e.g., polls.yourcompany.com) are not currently supported.
Enterprise plans include all Teams branding capabilities as part of the broader custom agreement.
Can I use Poll Everywhere for all-hands meetings or town halls with thousands of attendees?
Yes. Poll Everywhere's Enterprise plan supports many thousands of simultaneous participants — the exact ceiling is determined on a consulting basis and scoped with Sales based on your event's requirements. Infrastructure scales to meet the need; there is no fixed published limit.
Below Enterprise, the largest retail audience size is 700 (Teams and Educator+ plans). For any event expected to exceed that, contact Sales to discuss an Enterprise plan or a dedicated event arrangement.
How do I manage users and get analytics across my organization?
User management lives in Organization Settings → User Management tab, accessible from the account menu in the lower-left corner of the interface. From there, administrators can invite users, assign roles, and manage access across the organization.
Poll Everywhere has five user roles: Administrator, Creator, Team Manager, Presenter, and Participant. Administrators have full access to organization settings and user management. Team Managers can manage users within a specific team. Creators and Presenters can build and run polls. Participants are audience members.
Organization-wide usage analytics — including activity across all presenters — are available at the Enterprise tier. Teams plan users have access to their own activity data. For a full breakdown of what's available at each plan, contact Sales or review your plan's feature set in account settings. For detailed user management documentation, see User Management in the support center.
What support and uptime commitments does Poll Everywhere offer for enterprise accounts?
Enterprise accounts include a dedicated Customer Success Manager, as well as onboarding and staff training to get your organization up to speed. Ongoing support runs five days a week via phone and email. For high-stakes events, event-day support is also available.
Teams plan accounts include phone and email support. Present, Lecture, and comparable plans below Teams include email support. Free plan accounts have access to the support center and FAQ only.
Uptime SLA:
Poll Everywhere commits to 99.9% monthly uptime for subscribers. If that commitment is not met, service credits apply:
- Below 99.9% uptime → 10% credit
- Below 97.5% uptime → 20% credit
- Below 95% uptime → 30% credit
Downtime must be reported within 72 hours to servicelevel@polleverywhere.com. Credit requests must be submitted within 15 days of the end of the billing cycle. The SLA excludes scheduled maintenance (24-hour advance notice required), force majeure events, DDoS attacks, customer-caused issues, and free, beta, or trial accounts. The formal SLA is available to subscribers — contact Sales to include it in your agreement.
Security, Privacy & Compliance
What security certifications does Poll Everywhere hold?
Poll Everywhere holds SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, and ISO 27701 certifications. SOC 2 Type 2 confirms that our security controls have been independently audited and operate effectively over time — not just at a point in time. ISO 27001 covers information security management; ISO 27701 extends that framework specifically to privacy information management. Reports and certificates for all three are available on request through Sales.
Is Poll Everywhere FERPA and COPPA compliant?
Yes to both. Poll Everywhere is compliant with FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and COPPA (the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). For full details on how Poll Everywhere handles student data in an education context — including LMS integration, gradebook sync, and data storage — see Section 5: Education & Classroom Use.
Is Poll Everywhere GDPR compliant?
Yes. Poll Everywhere complies with GDPR and has certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (EU-U.S. DPF), the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. DPF — the formal legal mechanism for transferring personal data from the EU, UK, and Switzerland to the United States. Our DPF certification is publicly verifiable at dataprivacyframework.gov.
GDPR compliance is supported by our ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications. EU and UK individuals have the right to access, correct, amend, or delete their personal data, and to receive that data in a portable format. Requests can be directed to privacy@polleverywhere.com.
A note on data residency: All Poll Everywhere data is stored on U.S.-based AWS infrastructure. A dedicated EU data region is not currently available. The DPF certification is the legal basis for EU-to-US data transfers. For the full policy, see the Data Privacy Framework and GDPR Compliance Policy.
Where is Poll Everywhere data stored, and how is it encrypted?
All data is stored on AWS infrastructure located in the United States. Data at rest is encrypted with AES-256; data in transit is protected with TLS encryption. These are the same standards used across enterprise cloud infrastructure broadly.
Does Poll Everywhere sell or share user data with third parties?
No. Poll Everywhere does not sell user data. Sub-processors (third-party services used to deliver the platform) are bound by data processing agreements consistent with GDPR and Data Privacy Framework requirements. Poll Everywhere remains responsible and liable if any sub-processor handles data inconsistently with those requirements.
Data may be disclosed in response to valid legal requests from public authorities — for example, law enforcement or national security requirements. This is standard legal disclosure language required of any U.S.-based software company. For the full list of privacy commitments, see our Privacy Policy.
What is Poll Everywhere's data retention policy?
Personal data is retained for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in the Privacy Policy, or as required by law. Retention periods account for the nature and sensitivity of the data, the reason it was collected, and applicable legal or accounting obligations.
Enterprise customers have access to configurable data retention settings and automated deletion options, allowing organizations to set retention policies that align with their own data governance requirements.
For all accounts: to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data, contact privacy@polleverywhere.com.
Does Poll Everywhere store participant location data?
No. When geofenced attendance is enabled, a participant's location is verified at check-in to confirm they are within the defined GPS region — but that location data is not stored. Once verification is complete, no geolocation record is retained.
Is there an on-premises deployment option?
No. Poll Everywhere is a cloud-only platform, hosted on U.S.-based AWS infrastructure. There is no on-premises, private cloud, or self-hosted deployment option. A dedicated EU data region is also not available. Organizations with strict data residency requirements should review the Data Privacy Framework and GDPR Compliance Policy or contact Sales to discuss their specific requirements.
How do I request Poll Everywhere's security documentation?
Contact Sales to request any of the following:
- SOC 2 Type 2 report
- ISO 27001 certificate and report
- ISO 27701 certificate and report
- HECVAT (Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Toolkit)
- VPAT® Version 2.5 (WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility conformance report)
All security documentation is provided on request — typically to procurement teams, IT reviewers, and institutional compliance offices. Start at the Security page or reach out through Sales.
Video Conferencing & Virtual Meetings
Does Poll Everywhere work with Zoom?
Yes. Poll Everywhere has a native Zoom integration — install the Poll Everywhere app from the Zoom App Marketplace to add it to your meetings. Once installed, presenters can run polls, Q&As, word clouds, quizzes, and other activities directly within the Zoom window, with no need to switch between applications.
The Zoom integration works alongside your existing slide presentations. If you're presenting in PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides, Poll Everywhere activities display within that presentation while Zoom is running — no fumbling between apps. Participants see the poll inside Zoom and respond directly in the meeting window without opening any additional tabs or devices. Live results appear on the presenter's screen in real time, also within Zoom.
Does Poll Everywhere work with Microsoft Teams?
Yes. Poll Everywhere is available as a free app in the Microsoft Teams Marketplace. Find it in the Teams app menu, log in with your Poll Everywhere account, and you're ready to go.
The experience is fully contained within Teams for both presenters and participants. Presenters control and display activities from within the Teams interface; participants respond by selecting answer choices directly in Teams — no new tabs, no extra apps, no leaving the meeting. It works in-person, remotely, and in hybrid setups.
Does Poll Everywhere work with Cisco Webex?
Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet
Poll Everywhere has a native Webex integration for Poll Everywhere 1.0. Participants respond directly within the Webex meeting window — no separate tabs or devices needed.
A native Webex integration for Poll Everywhere 2.0 is not currently available. If you're using Poll Everywhere 2.0 with Webex, the recommended approach is the Poll Everywhere Live App: launch it alongside your Webex meeting, and participants join via the QR code or URL displayed on screen — the same browser-based experience that works for any meeting platform. See Section 4 for full details on the Live App.
Do participants need to leave the meeting to respond?
No — for Zoom and Microsoft Teams, participants respond directly within the platform. There's no need to open a browser, switch apps, or pick up a separate device. Poll Everywhere shows up inside the meeting, and responses happen there too.
For Webex (1.0 integration) and any platform without a native Poll Everywhere app, participants join through a browser at [pe.app/[username]](#) or by scanning a QR code displayed on screen. This takes seconds and works from any smartphone or laptop browser — participants don't need to install anything.
Can I use Poll Everywhere for hybrid events where some attendees are in-room and others are remote?
Yes, and the setup is straightforward. Participants join Poll Everywhere through a browser (via QR code or the activity URL) regardless of where they are — in the room or dialing in from anywhere. The browser-based response model means location doesn't matter.
For the presenter side: if you're using the Poll Everywhere Live App, it works on the in-room display and can be shared simultaneously via screen share to remote participants. If you're presenting in PowerPoint or Keynote, the add-in handles in-room display while remote attendees can see the shared screen through their video conferencing app. Hybrid audiences respond the same way either way.
AI Features
Can I use AI to create poll questions, and how does it work?
Yes. AI-powered poll creation is built directly into Poll Everywhere 2.0. When creating a new activity, describe your goal in the prompt field — for example, "Create a 4-question survey about onboarding" or "Create an icebreaker for a leadership workshop" — and Poll Everywhere will generate a complete poll for you. You can also paste in large document content or a URL, and the AI will draw from that material to generate relevant questions.
Suggested starter prompts appear below the input field if you want a jumping-off point. The activity type (Bar, Word Cloud, Clickable Image, Competition, Q&A, and others) can be selected before generation, or the AI will recommend one based on your goal. All AI-generated content is a starting point — everything is fully editable before you present.
> *Note: AI can make mistakes. Always review generated questions before presenting.*
What AI model does Poll Everywhere use?
Poll Everywhere currently uses Google Gemini to power AI poll creation and question refinement. If the underlying model changes, customers will be notified.
Does Poll Everywhere's AI access my account data or past poll responses?
No. The AI only sees what you choose to send it — the text you type into the prompt, or any document content or URL you paste. Your existing polls, response history, and account data are not accessible to the AI.
Data you submit to the AI is not used by Google for model training.
Can I edit or refine AI-generated questions before presenting?
Yes — both before and after generation. All AI-generated content is fully editable in the standard activity editor. You can change the question text, add or remove answer choices, adjust settings, and reorganize as you would with any activity you built manually.
For more targeted refinement, the Improve Question With AI panel lets you describe what you want in free text, or use quick-action buttons: Make it Easier, Fix Spelling & Grammar, Improve Writing, Simplify Language, or Make it Harder. This works on both AI-generated questions and questions you've written yourself.
> *Note: AI can make mistakes. Check important information before presenting.*
Is AI poll creation available on all plans?
All Poll Everywhere plans include at least some AI features. For a full breakdown of which AI capabilities are available at each plan tier, see Section 2: Pricing, Plans & Billing.
Reporting, Analytics & Data Export
Can I export poll results, and in what format?
Yes. Poll Everywhere exports response data as CSV. Exports are available on the Engage plan and above — free and Presenter plan accounts do not have access to data export.
To export, navigate to the Reports section of your account and download the CSV for any activity or report. CSVs can be shared with anyone — a colleague, a stakeholder, a LMS administrator — no Poll Everywhere account required to open or use the file.
Can I see individual participant responses?
Yes, for non-anonymous polls. Registered participants (those signed in via SSO or a Poll Everywhere account) appear by name in response data. Unregistered participants — those who joined with a QR code or URL without logging in — appear with randomly generated screen names.
When anonymity is enabled on a question, individual attribution is not surfaced regardless of registration status. Anonymity is a per-question setting and is off by default. See Section 3 for full details on how anonymity works.
Can I generate reports that span multiple sessions?
Yes. Poll Everywhere includes sophisticated multi-session reporting for Engage plan users and above. You can generate reports that aggregate data across sessions over time — useful for tracking participation trends, comparing responses across class sections or recurring meetings, or building longitudinal data sets.
Multi-session reports are available in the Reports section of your account.
Can I share reports with people outside my organization?
Yes. Reports export as CSV files, which can be shared directly with anyone — no Poll Everywhere account needed to open them. Download the CSV from the Reports section and share it however you'd like: email, shared drive, Slack, or any other file-sharing method your organization uses.
Does Poll Everywhere have an API or integration with other tools?
Poll Everywhere has an API. API access is not self-serve — it's available through a Sales conversation, so contact Sales if you need programmatic access to your data or want to integrate Poll Everywhere with other systems in your organization.
Events & Conferences
Can I use Poll Everywhere for a single one-time event?
Yes — and for many one-time events, no purchase is required. The free trial includes 30 days of access and supports up to 700 participants, which covers the majority of single-room events.
For events that require more participants, dedicated event support, or custom infrastructure, contact Sales. There is no standalone self-serve events plan — large-scale events are handled as Enterprise arrangements, scoped to the size and requirements of the event.
How many participants can a large event support, and what's included?
Below the Enterprise tier, the largest available audience size is 700 participants (Teams plan). For events above that threshold, Poll Everywhere scales to many thousands of simultaneous participants — the exact ceiling is determined on a consulting basis with Sales, based on your event's specific requirements.
Enterprise event arrangements include dedicated Customer Success Manager support, event-day on-site support (available through Sales), and the full suite of presentation and engagement tools. For multi-speaker conferences, multiple presenters can run simultaneous sessions — each presenter needs their own Poll Everywhere account, but sessions can run in parallel without any coordination overhead.
Can I customize branding for my event?
Yes. Custom branding — including your organization's logo, colors, and a custom URL — is available starting at the Teams plan. Poll Everywhere's own branding can also be removed at this tier. Custom domain names are not currently supported. For full details, see Section 6: Enterprise & Corporate Use.
How do I display poll results on a big screen or stage?
Poll Everywhere works with standard AV setups — projectors, displays, and stage screens of all kinds. For in-room display, the Poll Everywhere Live App is the recommended tool: launch it on the presenter's computer, connect to your venue's display or AV system, and live results appear on screen as responses come in. The Live App works with any HDMI, wireless display, or projection configuration your venue uses.
If you're presenting from PowerPoint or Keynote, the Poll Everywhere add-in displays results directly within your slide deck. Results update live on whatever screen the presentation is mirrored to.
Can multiple presenters run polls during the same event?
Yes. Multiple presenters can run Poll Everywhere sessions simultaneously — useful for multi-track conferences, breakout sessions, or events with multiple speakers running in parallel. Each presenter needs their own Poll Everywhere account. Shared folders and shared polls allow event teams to collaborate on content in advance, while each presenter independently controls their own live session.
Troubleshooting & Technical Requirements
Does Poll Everywhere require an internet connection?
Yes. Poll Everywhere is a cloud-based platform and requires an active internet connection for both presenters and participants. There is no offline mode. If either side loses connectivity during a session, responses cannot be submitted or received until the connection is restored.
What happens if the presenter loses internet during a live session?
Poll Everywhere shows the connection state on screen so the presenter knows what's happening. Some participant responses may still come in briefly during a brief drop, depending on timing. Poll Everywhere automatically attempts to reconnect at intervals — similar to how TCP connections recover — so the session does not immediately terminate. In most cases, the presenter is back online and running within seconds.
If the connection is lost for an extended period, the practical recommendation is to have a mobile hotspot or secondary connection ready as a backup for high-stakes sessions.
What browsers and devices are supported?
Poll Everywhere works on virtually any device with a modern browser — smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. As a general rule, any browser or device from roughly the last ten years will work. No app download is required for participants; they respond entirely in a browser.
This applies to iPads and Android tablets as well. Participants just open a browser and go to the activity URL or scan the QR code — there's nothing to install.
Why aren't poll results updating, or why can't participants join?
The most common causes:
Results not updating: The activity may not be in an active state — check that the poll is live and accepting responses. A browser refresh on the presenter's side often resolves display issues. A dropped internet connection will also pause result updates until reconnection.
Participants can't join: Verify that participants are using the correct URL (`pe.app/[your username]`) or scanning the current QR code. The activity needs to be active — if it hasn't been launched yet, participants will see a waiting state. If your plan's audience limit has been reached, additional responses will not be accepted.
When in doubt, a page refresh is the first diagnostic step for both issues.
How do I reset a poll between sessions?
Use the Clear Responses option on any activity to reset it for a new session. Clearing doesn't delete historical data — it creates a clean separation in your reporting between the previous activation and the current one. When you review reports, each activation is clearly delineated, so you can distinguish last week's class from this week's, or a dry run from the real session.
Can I test my polls before presenting live?
Yes. The recommended approach is to activate the poll as you would in a real session, submit a few test responses yourself (from a second device or browser tab), verify everything looks right, then clear responses before your actual session begins. Clearing separates the test run from the live session cleanly in reporting data — your test responses won't appear in your final results.
Why is the PowerPoint add-in not loading?
First, confirm your version of PowerPoint is supported: the add-in requires PowerPoint 2013 SP1 or later on Windows, PowerPoint 2016 or later on Mac, or Microsoft 365. For full installation and troubleshooting steps, see the Poll Everywhere for PowerPoint support article.
If the add-in continues to have issues, the Poll Everywhere Live App is the recommended alternative — it works alongside any presentation software without requiring an add-in, and is not affected by the Microsoft and browser security changes that can interfere with add-in loading. See Section 4 for details.
Logging In & Account Access
I got an "email does not exist" message — what should I do?
First, confirm that an account has been created with the email address you're using. If you're certain the account exists, try the following steps in order:
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then try signing in again at www.polleverywhere.com.
- Try a different browser.
- Open a private or incognito window and sign in from there.
- Disable any browser extensions (ad blockers, privacy tools) that may be interfering.
- Check whether a firewall or network restriction is blocking the login request.
- Confirm that your browser allows necessary cookies for polleverywhere.com.
- Double-check that you are entering the exact email address associated with your account — including any dots, plus signs, or aliases.
If none of these resolve the issue, contact Poll Everywhere Support.
How do I reset a forgotten password?
Visit the Poll Everywhere password reset page and follow the instructions to receive a reset link by email. Full steps are in our support article: How to reset your password.
How do I log in with SSO?
If your organization has set up Single Sign-On (SSO) with Poll Everywhere, you can sign in using your organization's identity provider instead of a password. For step-by-step instructions, see: Log in with your organization's SSO.
I use SSO and I'm getting a "registration disabled" error — what does that mean?
This is the most common SSO issue. It means your organization's Poll Everywhere account requires users to be explicitly invited before they can register via SSO — open self-registration has been turned off.
If you are a presenter or instructor: Contact the account owner at your organization and ask them to send you an invite.
If you are a participant or student: Contact your instructor or event host and ask them to invite you to the account.
The account owner can manage invitations from the User Management settings.
I'm getting a failed authentication error on my organization's SSO page — what should I do?
Authentication failures on your organization's SSO login page (the identity provider page, not Poll Everywhere's) are almost always caused by a permission or attribute configuration issue on the IT side, not in Poll Everywhere. Contact your internal IT team and let them know you're receiving an authentication failure when attempting to log in to Poll Everywhere via SSO. They will be able to check your account's SSO permissions and attribute mappings.
I'm having trouble signing in to Poll Everywhere inside PowerPoint — how do I fix it?
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1 — Reset the add-in
Fully close PowerPoint, including all open PowerPoint windows. This allows the Poll Everywhere add-in to reset. Reopen PowerPoint and look for the Poll Everywhere tab.
Step 2 — Sign in
If the Poll Everywhere tab is visible, open Settings → Log in. When PowerPoint opens a browser window, sign in using the same method you normally use (email/password or SSO).
Step 3 — If nothing happens after clicking Sign in
- Close any blank browser tabs that opened automatically.
- Click Sign in once more.
- If still stuck, clear your browser cache or switch to Chrome or Edge, then restart PowerPoint.
Step 4 — Clear the add-in's cookies and cache
If login problems persist, you may need to clear the cookies and cache stored inside the Poll Everywhere PowerPoint app itself. Follow the instructions here: Clear cookies and cache.
I'm on a Mac or iOS device and getting an authentication error — what should I do?
If you're a participant using a macOS or iOS device and encountering an authentication error, the issue may be related to Safari's cross-site tracking prevention settings. Follow the troubleshooting steps in this article: Safari cross-tracking on iOS device.
